Biography
Mr. Scott is Managing Partner of METROLEX IP LAW GROUP, which he co-conceived with Mr. Osaka in 2017 as an evolution of Mots Law. Mr. Scott has extensive hands-on industry experience in electronics hardware R&D and real-time software development. After a tour in the U.S. Navy, where he was a Non-Commissioned Officer in the Nuclear Power and Advanced Electronics programs, he spent several years in Sorrento Valley, CA, the high-tech corridor of San Diego, prototyping next generation products for electronics start-ups including a microprocessor-based blood pressuring monitoring device. Mr. Scott worked as a telephony engineer in terrestrial, wireless, and satellite communication, where he specialized in complex, mixed/hybrid signal hardware and embedded real-time software including multi-processor messaging operating systems, voice frequency equalizer circuits, channel coding programmable logic, and signal processing software. Mr. Scott prototyped one of the first computers to incorporate a stylus-based, handwriting recognizing “write-on” LCD display. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering at George Mason University, and studying Master’s level coursework in network architecture and protocols, he obtained his Juris Doctorate, also from George Mason, in the Patent Track program, where he now teaches Patent Law 1 and 2 to LLM candidates as an adjunct professor. Mr. Scott has lived and worked in Japan, Singapore, and Canada, and has prepared and prosecuted patent applications throughout the world in a variety of technology areas including automotive technology, telecommunications, electronics, REDOX battery chemistry, computer technology. Mr. Scott drafted and prosecuted many of the original Bluetooth patents, drafted and successfully prosecuted a patent for a ground penetrating radar that used theoretically faster-than-light speed signal components. In Japan, Mr. Scott was the sole U.S. attorney in the foreign patents group of a large automotive technology maker and began his continuing study of the Japanese language. In Canada, Mr. Scott managed a group of patent attorneys that handled patent preparation, prosecution, portfolio acquisition, due diligence and administration for a portfolio containing thousands of patents. Mr. Scott has developed a unique sense of patent strategy and takes great pleasure in assisting his clients to obtain meaningful protection for their critical IP.

Biography
Mr. Masahiro Osaka co-founded Mots Law PLLC, which evolved into METROLEX IP LAW GROUP in 2017. Mr. Osaka has experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a wide range of technologies including semiconductor devices, wireless technologies, and computer software before the Japan Patent Office. Mr. Osaka also has experience in autonomous vehicles, medical devices, and factory automation related technologies. After receiving his degree in Electronical Engineering from Hosei University, Mr. Osaka joined Digital Equipment Corporation Japan as a system engineer. He spent three years working in the field of system design for leading process industry companies. He designed a variety of application software for process control systems, network systems and other systems, and performed system integration based on analyzing customer requirements and existing system architectures. After his work as an Engineer, Mr. Osaka joined Miyoshi & Miyoshi (Tokyo, Japan) as a law clerk. In this position, Mr. Osaka gained experience in the preparation and prosecution of Japanese patent applications. Mr. Osaka was registered as a Japanese patent attorney in 1996. Mr. Osaka was assigned as a trainee to a law firm in Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2000 before he established Mots Law PLLC in 2007.

Biography
Mr. Shinji Koike is a U.S. Patent Agent and joined METROLEX IP LAW GROUP in October of 2010. Mr. Koike has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, studied solid-state physics and super conductivity. After graduation, Mr. Koike worked with a large Japanese patent law firm for about 9 years. Since 1999, Mr. Koike has drafted more than five hundred Japanese patent applications. Mr. Koike has significant experience in patent prosecution matters in Japan and in the United States totaling nearly 20 years. His experience spans a wide range of technologies, primarily in the mechanical arts including an automotive components including electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, transmissions, automotive bodies, air bags, and more. He also has experience with medical devices, optical devices, air conditioning systems, compressors, radiators, engines, valve systems, lighting devices, Lithium ion batteries, fuel cells, solar cells, printers, scanners, electronic components such as motors, switches, sensors, light-emitting elements, connectors, and semiconductor structures, and more. He has also handled many cases in the electromechanical field and the electric field such image processing and other processing.

Mr. Lorenzen joined METROLEX IP LAW GROUP as an associate attorney in July of 2017. Mr. Lorenzen focuses his practice on patent prosecution in the area of electrical arts. Mr. Lorenzen graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering. Mr. Lorenzen’s time at UIUC included Japanese language courses and a Japanese for Scientists and Engineers program at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology. Prior to joining METROLEX IP LAW GROUP, Mr. Lorenzen worked for a prominent Intellectual Property group at a mid-size Chicago law firm.

Ms. Sakai joined METROLEX IP LAW GROUP, PLLC (formerly Mots Law) in February of 2014. Ms. Sakai enjoys Limited Recognition before the USPTO. Ms. Sakai specializes in the area of biochemistry. Ms. Sakai graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering and from University of Tokyo with a Master’s degree in Biophysics and Biochemistry. After graduation, Ms. Sakai spent 6 years with a major pharmaceutical group company in Japan, part of a large international pharmaceutical conglomerate. There, Ms. Sakai evaluated and analyzed safety data of biopharmaceuticals, antibody drugs, and anticancer agents. Ms. Sakai earned a president’s award in 2009 for a contribution to achievement of marketing safety measures for one of the key products of the company. At METROLEX IP LAW GROUP, in addition to her substantive work, Ms. Sakai has contributed in many areas to improve firm administrative management, for example by developing a streamlined invoice generation system.

Mr. Summerton joined METROLEX IP LAW GROUP as an associate attorney in June of 2018. Mr. Summerton handles matters related to patent prosecution and application preparation in a wide variety of technologies, including chemical and mechanical arts and computer implemented inventions. Mr. Summerton graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Legal Studies. During his time at SUNY Fredonia, Mr. Summerton participated in research on topics including molecular signaling and NMR quantification.
While studying for his Juris Doctorate at the Antonin Scalia School of Law at George Mason University, Mr. Summerton clerked for several Intellectual Property firms and worked as a research assistant for the Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property.
